For my final project I planned on creating a video that addresses sexual assault and rape culture in America. I would've liked to share my video via social media. I intended to have anonymous women share their stories with me. Once I collect their stories via voice recording, I plan to place them all together with a voice over in the background. The video would be of them or of similar locations, outfits, or scenarios that match some of the women’s stories. I also wanted to incorporate some of my own stories and experiences. So far I have four volunteers who agreed to share a brief story about their encounters and experiences with some form of sexual assault. TikTok seems like a good place to begin my videos. The app has many fiters and abilities to help me edit my work. TikTok is a great platform as well because people of many ages are using the app especially during the pandemic.
For my final intervention, so far I have collected 5 stories. I have been playing around with the tiktok app and have hit a little bump in the road. I have a full video so far addressing Sexual assault and rape culture. I am considering changing my final project into a pod cast of stories and experiences rather than put photos behind the short blurbs I have collected thus far. One of the issues I am experiencing with the Tik Tok app is that the video can not exceed one minute. I don't want to rush my project, nor cut off any of the stories that make the video important. I have also collected posts from social media over the last few weeks that exemplify some of the rape culture attitudes and beliefs in America.
Some of the posts are included below:
