Final Project: Work- in- progress (Nashelly Molina)

For my final intervention, the topic that I will be discussing about is diversity/ethnicity. The thing that has inspired me to do this for my final intervention is because of the Asian American hate crime and other groups that has been a target for hate. I will be discussing about this specific topic because I would like to raise awareness to people that has been discriminated due to their diversity; especially during these tough times. During these times there have been many groups of people that has been targeted with hate; so I'm going to be focusing on diversity/ ethnicity because I feel like it has become an issue that we need to address. Covid-19 has made it hard for everyone and the fact that we have to deal with this deadly virus many people have to deal with the hate and threats people give them simply because of their culture. People have been targeting them for everything even if they never done nothing wrong; sometimes they target a specific group and called them a "threat" simply because they are African Americans. They aren't the only one being targeted but that's just an example; so I want to address this issue because it's important to talk about it and bring it to light instead of just hiding it and covering the problem because like that we aren't going to get anywhere with this. It's really upsetting because they have to deal with the abuse almost everyday without knowing the pain they are causing them. At this point racism towards different types of diversity have taken a big toll ever since the pandemic started; even though this problem has already been an issue but, I feel like it got worse during covid19. So, this is the reason and why I decided to do my final intervention on different types of diversity/ ethnicity.

For my final intervention, I created a lesson plan for kindergarten students because I am studying to become an Early Childhood Educator; and I will be creating a lesson plan in which kindergarteners will be able to understand within their academic level. The things that I will be including are a lesson plan on what we are going to be learning about in which in this case is about diversity and how that makes each and one of unique. I will be including a worksheet that it will have students draw themselves and have them write about their ethnicity, and I will be adding a children book which I will be reading it to them and it's called "When God Made You". I feel like it's a great book because it's about how when we were created we were made differently and each of us have different skills, qualities and are from different part of the world and that's what makes us unique and special. It's about how different we are and that it's a good thing because if we were all the same than the world will be boring; and that no matter how different we are from one another we should all treat each other equally. I chose this book because I feel like it's a great way to educate young children that no matter what ethnicity or diversity you are we should all treat each other the same, with respect and not discriminate one another. If you teach them young and from a young age children may be able to learn and know not to engage in those such things. So, yes I feel like it's going to be a great way for children to understand the importance of accepting their own and other people's diversity/ethnicity and not to be judging and engaging in bad behaviors.

The way that I will be planning on reaching an audience is to go with my plan on what I'm going to do. I will be doing this by teaching it to young children and maybe have their parents come in and we can do fun activities in which the parents and the children will be learning about different ethnicity/diversity. By doing this I will not just be reaching a big and large audience but there would be just enough people that can possibly spread the message to others; like their friends, family members, neighbors and so on. With the message being spread more people will know about the situation and know how important it is to bring it too light. Even though if it's not talked much about it's still something that should be discussed because it affect millions of people. So, yes the way that I plan on reaching an audience is by teaching it to the children and having their parents come in and them talking about it to whoever they may know because parents love to talk about what their own children are learning so this can be a great way to spread the message. That's one way that I can reach an audience and how more people will know about the issue.

Below are just three examples of how I'm going to do my final intervention:

1. I will begin with having everyone in a circle on the rug and telling them what we are going to be learning today, maybe asking a question if they know what it means by diversity, and then I will be reading the book to them.

2. After reading the book I will be giving them a piece of paper and draw themselves like on the example above but to add something I will have them write a little bit about themselves on their background/ ethnicity.

3. This is the name of the book that I chose and I feel like it's a great book because it talks about how unique and special you are no matter what and being different is what makes you who you are. So, I feel like it's going to teach children that we are all special in our own way and that what makes us all unique no matter what background we come from.
