Guerrilla Girls - quotes and photos Krystal M

I choose this image from the book because the "Missing In Action" flyer stood out to me. I like how there is more than one issue that is being addressed in the image. The issues being addressed do not just concern women, but all genders. The issues discussed are also issues that many races were facing. The following quote also stuck out to me. It is crazy to think that so many women came together at a time where the world was trying to tear us down and a part. The Guerrilla Girls found an outlet to the limits of society! They used art as a way of expression, and it is so powerful and so important back then and even now! "In a social milieu that reconstitutes politics and sexuality as entertainment and relies on the mass media to be arbiter of success, the Girls' particular combination of subversive theatrics and outrageous flaunting of convention finds a ready audience" (10).
The Mothers Day flyer is one of my favorites! As a mother, a woman - the first thing many people think of for a gift is what is listed first ... candy, flowers.. but the women found a way to address more important issues like a place to live! Even though today women rights can be considered as improved compared to the Guerrilla Girls time, it is important to note that not all women want material or temporary things to make them happy! One of the members said "One hundred, one thousand, one million years from now, we want to make sure our descendants know what our culture was really like" (5, Guerrilla Girls), and with these posters I think they were able to achieve that!
