Intervention 2 Poster (Nashelly Molina)

An issue that I thought was the most important to me was the global pandemic that we are currently going through right now. Couple days ago it has already been a year since they declared covid-19 as a pandemic that had already been so many death confirmed. As of March of 2020, covid-19 had a total outbreak that was leading to more people to get contagious and die. After they declared it as a pandemic they were forced to shut down schools, restaurants, bars etc and were forced to go into a lockdown quarantine. Nobody was allowed outside not even for a whole second; this is why before we went into quarantine we had to buy food, toilet papers, masks, gloves, hand sanitizers etc. While we were on quarantine the only time that was allowed to go out was for necessary means; meaning if we ran out of food or things like that we could go but we had to go wearing mask, gloves and do social distancing which only certain amount of people can go in at once. At that time people went crazy buying so many things that toilet paper became out of stock and it was extremely hard to find toilet papers. Same thing with food and water, grocery stores and supermarkets were closed that people were starting to run out of food. Covid-19 claimed the lives of so many people. Many people got severely sick that hospitals were really pack with no rooms or space for more patients. Some were being treated outside in the hallways because there weren't any more rooms for more while in some places people were dying in the streets. Even ventilators which is very important they were short in vent that many people needed them but there weren't enough so fortunately the doctors and nurses did everything they can to save a life but unfortunately many did not make it. Over the times the curve has lowered a little and has gotten better that they lifted quarantine and people were now able to go outside; but yet they had to use mask and maintain social distancing and follow the CDC guideline like washing hands, if symptoms are present stay home and seek medical help and isolate from loved one to prevent them from getting sick. My intentions to make this sign was because I wanted to let people know that face mask, social distancing, washing hands etc. can help lower the risk of getting infected. Although it won't protect you but it can lower the risk of you getting it and those around you as well. Getting tested is also important because it can notify you if you are sick with the virus or not so it can help protect those around you and if it's caught early you can get treated without it being very risky. Getting vaccinated is also very important because it can help protect you from getting covid. Although there are risks that you can still get infected but it will be minimum; meaning that you won't have it that bad compare if you get infected without having the vaccine. All those things are very important because if you don't follow them, then there's just going to be more deaths; also because there are certain individuals who refuse to wear masks and it's not fair because then they are not just risking their lives but risking other peoples lives as well. Some even have a hard time following social distance and act like this virus doesn't exist because if you gather in large groups you may never know who might have the virus and it's already infecting someone else. My thoughts while making this is that I want people to know and hopefully to listen and understand to take this virus serious because it can still claim peoples lives if you don't follow the CDC guidelines and just because it's getting better and there are vaccines we should still take cautions. My explanation to this poster was to let people know that by not listening and not following simple directions such as face mask and social distance it can lead to death something that we all try to avoid very much. My thoughts about signs and protest is that is raising awareness and it's advocating for other people to know how important things are. It's also helping advocate for those who can't advocate for themselves and by protesting we can get large following and views that we can all come as a community and help fight for a change for a better future as well. Signs and protest are important because it shows how much someone or people care about one another by helping each other fight for what they want. I decided to put this poster in Boulevard East because that place always gets crowded and like that everyone will be able to see it when they pass by.

2 Quotes:

1. "To collect photographs is to collect the world". -Susan Sontag excerpt from On Photography

I can relate this quote to the poster up above because they are pictures that shows what is actually happening out in the world. This situation is world-wide so therefore, all the picture that is collected on the poster is basically collecting the world because the pandemic is happening world-wide. Although they are simple images but those images do collect a meaning of what is happening right now and what it appears to be something deadly around the globe.

2. "Photographs furnish evidence. Something we hear about, but doubt, seems proven when we're shown a photograph of it". -Susan Sontag excerpt from On Photography

I can also relate this quote to the poster up above because when the pandemic first started and was talked about some people didn't believe it and just believed that it was like a simple "flu" which is not like the flu. Some people had a hard time believing that it was an actual pandemic but when photographs and videos were shown on the internet and on the news that's when people started to believe it that it was real and that it was more like a pandemic then a simple "flu". they started to believe that it was real because they were shown videos or photograph of what was happening and that's when some started to treated like a pandemic and were starting to take it seriously.
