For the second intervention, the subject I chose to do the poster on was on the current rising hate against Asian Americans that has been recently getting more light shed upon the past few weeks. Racism of course is a horrible subject and goes against basic human rights due to it being something about hating another person simply because of their skin color which is something that they cannot change themselves so easily. When the BLM movement had started to gain a bigger audience and more awareness, I myself had done my part and had educated myself of the events that had lead up to this event, and had used every resource I had found to help out with this movement. I will always stand up for basic human rights and integrity no matter what. But recently what I have noticed is that my people, Asian Americans have recently been starting to get targeted for racism and vicious attacks against them.
Just like every other race here in America, racism against Asians has always been integrated long ago in America's history like the Chinese Exclusion act or the discrimination against Asian Americans back in the 40s when WWII had begun, but in more recent times the racism of Asian Americans have increased when the Corona Virus struck our nation last year. Because it was from China, a lot of people had went against the Asian communities, mocking us with racist remarks and even blaming us for the whole pandemic. And the worst part about it was that it seemed like it was swept under the rug and it really seemed like racism against Asian Americans have been so undermined that no one really bats an eye towards it.
But jumping to a year later which is now, the hate against Asian Americans has started to get even worse. With attacks against elderly Asian people by pushing them on the ground leaving them to rot, slashing/stabbings and robbing them in broad daylight, and shootings against them, and even some deaths caused by the police have started to be more shown and shared on social media with Instagram/twitter accounts dedicated to these type of topics. What infuriates me as an Asian American myself is that I have not seen much news on TV about what's going on against my community. The only thing I have really seen on TV was president Joe Bidden denouncing the hate crimes against my people, which I feel wasn't really enough since it is still on-going with all the violence against us. It really makes me afraid to think if I or any one of my family members are next.
That's why the subject of my poster was this poster speaking about Asian racism. I have posted this poster in the lobby of my apartment so that people coming inside and out can see the messages that I have put down and hear my cry against the hate about my community. I have even put in some of the victims names that have been attack/killed during the past month or so. And hopefully, someone will look up these issues and victims and educate themselves to as well.
