Ah,yes, plarn. What is plarn you may be asking? Simple! Plastic yarn - or at least, yarn derived from plastics and other non-biodegradable materials. I'm not quite sure who to thank for this creative idea, but while people were learning to make diy bread during quarantine, I was busy hoarding all the household grocery bags and going to town making plarn.
Why is plarn important? Because it's a great example of repurposing wasteful and otherwise harmful plastic into something sustainable. While single use products damage our environment, we do little about it. By actively collecting these bags and transforming them into plarn, I change their purpose and their value. Although they are not worth much monetarily, they can have a profound impact on the environment and my families' carbon footprints.
It's a small but steady step towards change and perhaps something more profound. Little things like these, done on a massive scale, can cause outstanding change. I encourage you all to try something similar to this and not to judge it so harshly. It may seem a menial and pointless task, but in truth the action itself comes from a deep concern for the environment, for our future, and for each other. I hope that my performance encourages you all to try something new and to be unafraid of it's quirkiness. The world needs change builders!
