Activism and Art

 Final Activism Intervention

For my final intervention, my plan for it is to create a website dedicating it towards the problems about the AAPI hate crimes and information, including facts and statistics and even history of it in America. The reason why I chose this topic is because as an Asian American myself, this topic really does hit home for me and after attending this class, it helped me become inspired to start speaking up about the injustices around the world. And something that has affect my community is of course a great place to start.

Recently, all over the world there has been increasing hate crimes against the AAPI community. Especially towards elderly people where people are actually assaulting them out in broad daylight and it scares me because it could happen to me or one of my relatives. One of my biggest problems with the hate against AAPI, however, is that this has been going on for a long time in American history. What makes it worse is that people often brush it aside as if it were a joke. It is not a joke to me or my family and friends when people call us things like "dog eaters" or telling us to go back to our country along with COVID-19. This is a problem that needs to be stopped and shed more light upon because it just keeps getting more and more severe as time passes on. And that is why I plan on explaining the history of Anti Asian hate in America, and current hate crimes in against Asians in America as well in this website I am creating. I can use social media, like Twitter or Facebook, to my advantage again to spread word of my website when it goes live.

Quotes-
Susan Sontag-  "To photograph is to appropriate the thing photographed. It means putting oneself into a certain relation to the world that feels like knowledge -- and, therefore, like power."

This quote here helps out my project because if I source in videos and pictures of actual hate crime in America against Asian Americans, it could help shed light upon the issues and raise awareness about it so that people could be informed on what's happening.

The Interventionists- "We hope in the near future to make connections to pilgrims on similar roads in other parts of the world as well as bring out message to larger audiences on the radio and television via public service announcements."

The reason why I chose this quote and why I feel like it goes along with my project is because basically this quote is saying is that they want to reach a larger audience to shed light upon something and work together and connect with, just like how I am trying to do with this project.

Susan Sontag- ""Photographs furnish evidence. Something we hear about, but doubt, seems proven when we're shown a photograph of it."

This late quote I chose here is again from Sontag. The reason why I chose this one is because I have seen and heard people that the Asian hate crimes that have been popping up around America has been made up or staged just to get an agenda going for whatever, and I want to change that. With this quote, it basically means that without photographic proof, people won't believe anything they hear unless they actually see what's happening. And I plan on showing the Asian hate crimes to them so they can believe that it is actually happening in recent times.
