Intervention 2 (Isenia) Poster

For Intervention two I chose to do a poster on racism and equality. I was inspired to do this because of the articles that I read last week. The articles were the following: Black Lives Matter May Be the Largest Movement in U.S. History, Background on Black Lives Matter, Chapter 5 Civil Rights- I Have a Dream, and Chapter 10 Black Lives Matter. While reading these articles I honestly felt heartbroken. It was really upsetting to read how people of color have gotten treated through out the years, and you would think racism would minimize through out the years but unfortunately it has not. These stories have definitely impacted me because I just think it is not fair that just because someone is of color they get treated differently then others.
One of the quotes that impacted me was in the first article I read Black Lives Matter May Be the Largest Movement in U.S. History. The quote stated “If you aren’t moved by the George Floyd video, you have nothing in you,” this quote spoke volume to me because when I saw what had happened to George Floyd I could not believe it. I must admit that I was honestly in shock due to the fact that Floyd was honestly brutally abused and it honestly hurt me how he was saying that he could not breathe but the officers did not care and because of their ignorance he passed away right then and there. I agree with this quote because if Floyd's video did not move you as a person, if it didn’t change your heart or how you treat others then it is sad to say but “you have nothing in you”.
When I was reading Chapter 10 Black Lives Matter, I got really upset when I read the quotes “Am I Next?”. This quote made me feel destroyed inside and out because in the article you can see how these little kids are holding up posters that say Am I Next?. Instead of a child enjoying their childhood and innocence they are out here living in a world that is teaching them how to live afraid and worried only because of their color. This is why these articles influenced me to speak about racism and equality because honestly it is heart breaking to see how people of color till this day feel less of themselves and it should not be that way. In my poster I put several quotes some state how we could help fight racism, others say that even though we are all different we should all be equal etc. My favorite quote that I chose to put on my poster states “don’t sit back and be silent”, I left this quote towards the end of the poster because after people read all of the quotes I put on my poster I want them to leave with that final message, because unfortunately that is what most people do they know that racism is wrong but they just sit back and observe and in order for there to be a change in the world people have to speak up and defend one another.

Posted on the first floor of my building/ visible to everyone as they walk in.
