MEME (Ian)

The theme of the meme is coronavirus or COVID 19. As we move on into the new year and into the distribution of vaccinations we must not forget to practice CDC guidelines. We as a society have already adapted to the new normal of wearing masks and have become a bit complacent with how things are. The pandemic is not over, with the arrival of COVID 19 strains, we have to be more cautious especially when going into public places. Complacency leads us to a tendency to bend the rules, often assuring ourselves with words such as, "I haven't gotten it so I'm probably fine" or "Vaccines are coming so, coronavirus will be over soon" which increases our susceptibility of spreading the virus to others and the risk of catching it ourselves.  With the number of cases decreasing and the number of vaccinations being administered it is our responsibility to continue with CDC regulations and double our efforts in order to keep ourselves and everyone safe.

Memes are inside jokes, you'll only find it funny if you know what's going on. If you are in the know, you know. In an article written by Sage Lazaro, Alan Schaff (CEO of Imgur) mentions that memes are easy to create, relatable, and connect us to a common feeling, this is the power of memes. The ability of memes to connect people to one single thought showcases its ability to raise awareness. Lizzie Ferguson writes, "As a byproduct of social media, memes and protest art act as a way to gauge a country’s political temperature."  Due to the incredible influence memes have in bringing awareness, we are able to infer the situation. Memes give people a sense of what is going on in a funny way.
