4 quotes+ image Naomi Andujar

“To photograph is to appropriate the thing being photographed. It means putting oneself into a certain relation to the world that feels like knowledge, and therefore like power.”

“ What is written about a person is frankly an interpretation as are handmade visual statements, like paintings and drawings. Photographed images do not seem to be statements of the world so much as pieces of its miniatures of reality that anyone can acquire.”

“Publicity is never about a celebration of pleasure in itself. Publicity is always about the future buyer.”

“The happiness of being envied is glamoured. Being envied is a solitary form of reassurance.”

The picture I have chosen relates to the quotes above in many ways. In today's world technology is becoming something that people get to interact with as soon as they get out of the womb. Photography and social media go hand and hand. Before we had such extreme access to each other's social lives through pictures online, we had photo albums. We would share these intimate moments caught on camera with people who were close to us. Nowadays anyone can search your name up and know everything about you in a matter of clicks. The truth behind it all is that as humans we love the reassurance and validation we get from having other people view our lives. Young people are easily influenced because they see these famous celebrities’ posts and wish to be like them. Although there may be no malicious intent, this is a form of being envious. Photography is a beautiful thing because we get to capture so many special moments in our lives, but it’s losing its magical touch because things are so forced now. We have photoshoots on our phones and take up to100 pictures yet only seem to like a handful of them because we’re so worried about what everyone else is going to think of them. Years back we would use film cameras and not even get the pictures we took until they were developed  weeks later. Once we learn that these moments are so much more precious when they’re natural photography will excel so much more than we think.
