These memes represent the recent situation involving Wallstreet shorting stocks and hoping for them to default instead common everyday people decided to fight back against the demands of wall street and they bought those stocks causing prices to go up and hedge funds to lose money. While I am a capitalist at heart I found this situation interesting and felt it would be good to discuss this issue within this medium in order to learn more about our economic system and how we all can make marks on our country good or bad.
I found two quotes from readings that I thought highlight this issue but also the creation of these memes. First, being "
glamor cannot exist with personal social envy being a common and widespread emotion. " This quote expresses the idea that the only way to make something shine and become a symbol of expression is if the envy for that particular subject or item is widespread. I believe that these memes can express glamor under the context of Berger because of their widespread affiliation with such a popular and boiling topic. My second quote expresses a sense of freedom and explanation of artwork in our society.
"a work of art suggests a cultural authority a form of dignity."From this quote, we understand art not just as a physical creation but a philosophical one. These memes may seem funny and simple but they hold a deeper meaning, words are more powerful when they have a voice shouting them.
