These works inspired me, and I always wanted to do a project inspired by these works. Although activism takes on many forms, what inspired me the most about these works is showing the true youth essence. Back then, African pictures were national geographic anthropology-style pictures, but those photographers' works indeed showed what life was.
The last couple of months have been immensely triggering how violence against black people is consumed and shown. For this project, I want to change that perception. I believe showing black people in their true essence is a form of resistance; it takes a lot to change how people have displayed through history.
Another reason for this project is bridging the Gap between the Africans in the diaspora and back home. Photographs are a great way of showing relatability and connection. The works of these men are timeless and will always hold meaning. What I hope to achieve with this project is to show the diaspora how connected they are always.
