In the devise times, we live in, we as a community must come together under one united goal. As we fight for freedom and remember our past we must also look to the future. With the recent pandemic still amongst us, we must fight for survival in order to hope we can be around to effect change on future generations. The main way we can ensure our safety and good health is by getting our covid- 19 vaccines. This issue has sparked controversy with many Americans refusing the shot under false pretenses. My intervention is to spread the truth about the vaccine and protest the fake news out there about the shot, it is safe and effective and we must push this topic so that we can save more lives from an avoidable death. My poster pictured above shares the message "keep your family safe, get your vaccine" it underlines "family" and "your" to emphasize the importance of this protest and topic, we aren't just helping our selves but we are helping those around us. The people we love are the ones we hold in the highest regard, and we must do everything we can to keep them safe, get your shot! This topic and intervention are so important to me for multiple reasons, first I am a family man who wants to live with my family and see them stay safe in these scary times. Also, I am a firefighter on the front lines of this pandemic, I have seen what it has done to others and I do not want it to happen to me or anyone else. God forbid I would bring this home accidentally and spread the virus with someone else, I would be devastated. That is why I am taking this stand and protesting against the idea that this is unsafe. We must inform the general public about how safe this is and let them know that this is the only way back to normal, we must trust the science.
The recent readings with regards to protest have deep and complementary meaning with this topic. The black lives matter movement has inspired me to take a stand in what I believe in. Within the article from Harvard University, they discuss the BLM movement and talk about its effect on society. They state "The protests may also be benefitting from a country that is more conditioned to protesting..." This idea of our country becoming more used to free speech and protest is great and it allows us to feel more comfortable in taking a stand for important causes. Another quote that indirectly helped support my intervention of pushing the vaccine out is "Some were lynched because they stood up to a landowner. Some were lynched because they crossed the color line, consensually; and some were lynched because they were successful,” This quote talks about the historic suffering and oppression against African Americans in this country. It is powerful because it highlights how people were pushed down in society and beaten to their core because they stood up for a cause and their families. Just like the movement for equality, we must push forward to ensure everyone in this country has accessibility to a vaccine.
