Memes + 2 Quotes (Isenia)

I chose Covid memes because it is something that has been happening since 2020. The first meme I chose was the spongebob one because when Covid was happening in China America did not prepare as they should have. At the time we had Donald Trump as our president and he had said that we were going to be fine and did not take the precautions that he should have. Sometimes I think to myself that if Trump would have taken Covid seriously maybe there would not have been so many deaths and probably this would have been over by now. The next meme I chose was when Covid first started people began to panic and use lysol everywhere. I honestly think that people thought that spraying Lysol all over the place was the cure but it wasn't. The last meme I relate to and it is my favorite one because before Covid came into our lives I never enjoyed food shopping. However, after Covid started and being at home quarantined for so long it made me love grocery shopping. Going to buy groceries honestly felt like going traveling or being on another planet thats how bad quarantine made me feel. I think that if supermarkets would have been closed  during Covid I would have suffered from depression because everything was literally closed and I felt stuck at home, so I am beyond thankful for supermarkets and I love grocery shopping now. These memes could be seen as political art because it helps others be aware of what is happening now a days. Even though memes can be funny, some talk about current events and are also eye openers for many.

Two Quotes:

Memes Are Our Generation's Protest Art

Quote 1: At their core, all memes, regardless of their politics, are a tool for expression. “Memes help to articulate specific points, amplify ideas, and intensify emotions,” Burroughs said. “Something can be comedic or a joke and still be incredibly poignant.”

Quote 2: Memes can spread far more quickly than the songs or art projects of previous generations, and there’s such a low barrier to entry that anyone can make them; they can go viral in a matter of minutes.
